Welcome to the third week of Jane Eyre Check In! I have not read the book in about a week! I'm feeling overwhelmed with the books that I am reading and I'm just not built to read more than one book at a time. Thankfully, this is school vacation week, so I'm hoping to get some serious Jane Eyre reading in. I really suck as a hostess, and for that, I'm sorry.
But I hope everyone else is still reading or at least looking at the cover from time to time. Seeing as I've read this book before, why don't you tell me where you are in the book, what you like and dislike about it. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts.
I'd like to bring up another Bronte. One who is not quite as well read as Emily and Charlotte, that would be Anne Bronte. I've read her Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey. Both exquisite books. I've always preferred Anne's writing to Emily's and even Charlotte's. For a book that was written in the 1850's Bronte's Tenant is a feminist book. Girl Power before we even knew what that meant. Just something to get you thinking.
I'm still in the early going where Aunt Reed has agreed to send Jane to Lowood and Jane is finally having some quality time with the nursemaid.
ReplyDeleteTheir conversation is one I want to mull over a bit more because it sheds light on how Jane is perceived by others and, mayhap, can shed light on what I've been wondering this time around: Where does Jane get her determination?
