I'm going to be brave and announce some books here that for one reason or another, I just couldn't finish. We've all these times, where we start a book, like the book, but for some reason, just can't seem to get through it. It's possible because it's the wrong story at the wrong time of our lives. Sometimes if I go back to a book later, I'm pleasantly surprised and glad that I gave it another chance. So here goes.
1. Sprout, Dale Peck. Yep, never finished it. Strange is that I absolutely loved the beginning, but I think the timing of when I started reading it, just wasn't right. I'm definitely going to get back to this.
2. Wings, Aprilynne Pike. I started it, but it seemed a bit too young for me. I like MG books, but there was something about it, that I just couldn't stay focused on it. I'm not sure if this is one I will go back to.
3. Models don't eat Chocolate Cookies, Erin Dionne. I started it. Forgot about it, and need to get back to it. I really enjoyed the beginning, but I misplaced the book during a cleaning session in my bedroom and recently found it again! I'm also giving this book (signed) as a Christmas gift to neighbor of mine who I think will really love it. I'm hoping to meet up with Erin next week for coffee!
4. Radiant Darkness. Emily Whitman. I started it, couldn't get into it. But will try again. Again, was at the wrong time in my reading life to get into it.
So what about you? Ever start a book, realize that perhaps you're not in the mood for that type or style of book and decide if you'll ever go back to it?

yes this has also happened to me with liar. Not everybody is going to like every single book they read.
ReplyDeleteYup. And I recently decided I wasn't going to hold on to them any longer so I gave them away on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI say I'll get back to it but know I won't. They have new homes now and I hope the new owners do enjoy them.
Hey Laura, I totally agree. Numerous times I have bought a few books at the store and for whatever reason just never found the time to read them. You almost feel like you disappointed the author.

This happens to me more often than I'd like to admit. Most recently I didn't finish The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan and Fire by Katherine Neville. But I did like Radiant Darkness!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't happen too often to me, except with library books because I end up having to take them back before I can finish them, lol. With review books, I pick a book and just read it, then move on to the next one.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read Sprout but I really want to. Wings is actually a YA title, not MG. I bought Models a while ago but haven't read it yet. And Radiant Darkness is actually in my TBR pile; I got it from the library.
Good luck with getting back to those whenever you get the chance!
Just yesterday, I returned The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate to the library after three renewals and getting about halfway through it. Good writing, but the topic bored me. And I'm sad to say that I could not get through The Book Thief. Wings has been on my to-read list for quite some time, and I just haven't gotten around to it. So, yes, I definitely know how you feel. But you know, I think I have the right to enjoy what I read and choose not to read something that I'm not into at the moment.
ReplyDeleteNatalie, I LOVED the Book Thief! One of my favorite books!
